Meet Porky

He showed up as a birthday surprise for Jamie — a little after the actual day, the way the best gifts sometimes do — and the house hasn’t been the same since.

Porky is a basset hound / pit bull mix, which is exactly as ridiculous and wonderful as it sounds: a long, low basset body on those stubby legs, topped with a big blocky pit bull head and one enormous flopping ear that always seems to be inside-out.

A few things to know about Porky:

• He believes every meal is his meal.
• The couch is load-bearing and he is the load.
• He has opinions, and he shares them at the front window, loudly.

He’s the reason we finally started keeping this journal properly — turns out a dog gives you a lot to write about. Welcome to the family, buddy.
